How You Can Help

Alder Creek Farm

This 55 acre farm and wildlife sanctuary, which can be found at the end of Underhill Lane between Manzanita and Nehalem, is one of the few remaining large, open green spaces in our region. Its connection to the estuary, proximity to the three villages, and location on Alder Creek - a productive salmon-bearing stream - convinced the Trust that this was important land to preserve and restore.

On March 31, 2003, five members of the Trust Board purchased the Alder Creek Farm with the intention of reselling it to the Lower Nehalem Community Trust.  The Trust applied for and received grants from North American Wetlands Conservation Act Small Grants Program, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, and the Wetlands Reserve Program.  These funds in conjunction with donations of funds from the community allowed the Trust to complete acquisition of the farm in early November 2005.

The Farm currently hosts the Trust's office, Watershed & Estuary Education Project, and Coastal Food Ecology Center. Fifty acres are being restored to their natural state for the benefit of all species.
